00100	THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL
00200
00300
00400 In this section, I would like to explore the possiblities of
00500	increasing the capabilities of individuals. We shall consider both
00600	the provision of new tools and improvements in physiology.
00700
00800 Why is it not possible for one person to do the following?:
00900
01000 1. Build a ten story building, a sophisticated jet airplane,
01100	a car, or a large computer all by himself.
01200
01300 2. Convince the government to adopt a good new policy simply
01400	by having good arguments for the new policy without having any
01500	political position or even political ability.
01600
01700 3. Climb Mount Everest or walk across the Arctic alone.
01800
01900 4. Swim the Atlantic.
02000
02100 5. Live 500 years.
02200
02300 6. Run 25 miles to work in the morni;g in an hour and back in
02400	the afternoon without being especially tired.
02500
02600 7. Have the information in the Library of Congress as readily
02700	available at any time as if one remembered it.
02800
02900 8. Get agreement on the solution to social problems as
03000	readily as agreement on engineering problems.
03100
03200 It seems to me that any of these things would be worthwhile,
03300	and maybe all of them are possible. That they are worthwhile seems to
03400	me evident, but experience shows that many people can find
03500	disadvantages in anything. Therefore, I shall go through the entire
03600	list, saying somewhat pedantically why each one seems worthwhile, and
03700	also how it may be possible.
03800
03900 1. Build a large building or airplane or computer alone.
